Bracket Racing 2012
In 2011 - NSRA added a new division to their racing circuit; Bracket Racing Classes
Perry Schlueter, NSRA Race Director reviewed the new division over the year. In 2012 NSRA renamed the classes to the division: Bracket Stock and Bracket ATV.
Bracket Stock class include all snowmobiles; stock, improved, pro stock and modified sleds. Bracket ATV features all variety of ATVs.
What is bracket racing? Its the same as what you see at a dragstrip for cars only snowmobiles on the grass or ATVs will be running. First the driver will select the class appropriate.
Before running their heat, each driver must inform NSRA on a sheet of paper his dial-in time that he has selected his machine will run in the 500 feet. This is entered into the database by Lane Director, Brady Schlueter. Once all lanes have given notification, the Portatree is set and a blue light will appear on the tree. NSRA starter, Dan Brown, will confirm that all drivers are ready and flip the switch to run the tree. Based on the driver's dial -in time the 4 lanes will run independently and once the driver sees his green light he will GO!
Yes you can still see a red light if the driver leaves before his time which will automatically disqualify him. Yes, if you see a sled finish first across the finishing line doesn't mean he wins that heat. He must reach his dial in time or if he goes over he breaks out and someone else in that heat may win.
The Portatree will automatically record the finishing results by yellow lighted bulbs lighted in placement for their finish. For example, you will see the top yellow light lit for 1st in whatever lane that has finished first, second light on tree for 2nd and third light on tree for 3rd. The remaining lane would be 4th but also depends how many are running in that heat.
Scoring of the finish is printed out for the drivers to see their time slips and results of the race. This helps the driver to select his dial-in time for the next heat.
